A Day in the Life of: Wendy (A Royal Kona Employee)

For our last night at the Royal Kona Resort, we decided to do our Day in the Life Of of an employee who works here at the resort to get a feel of what their life is like working in Hawaii and at a place like this. We first started out by asking her a question on the different types of cultures that come across her while staying at the hotel and if she can see the different characteristics between the different cultures when they come to stay here. She told us that people come and stay here for vacation from all around the world. Including places besides the mainland like Japan, Canada, and Australia. We asked her if there is a specific busy time of the year when people travel to Hawaii and she told us that usually the busiest time people come and stay is when it is winter time and cold on the mainland, she added that it is very rare for it not to be busy here though, all throughout the year since people are always looking to come visit Hawaii. She told us some personal facts such as her being from Southern California and then moving out to Oahu when she was twenty seven, following her high school sweetheart who she later married and had two children with. She then moved to Colorado with her family, but after divorcing her husband, decided to move back to Hawaii because she missed the warmth and love that it brought to her. Although she decided now to live on the Big Island instead of Oahu because she thinks this island has a more relaxed, non-city like feel which she loves. She said that she enjoyed living in California and Colorado, but something about the culture and sense of home she felt from Hawaii always stayed with her, bringing her back to permanently stay where she now lives happily with her boyfriend and followed her dream of working in a hotel at the front desk where she can meet and welcome people to this beautiful place.
