A Day in the Life of: A Traveler

As we prepare to travel to Hawaii, we take into consideration the several families, businessmen, and tourists who travel to Hawaii either regularly or irregularly. Our interviewee was a Hawaii native and goes to school at Marist college. She is 21 and is a Psychology major who regularly travels home during long breaks.

Question 1: How often do you fly home?
- Winter and Summer.

Question 2: What made you choose Marist?
- I wanted to go far away and i'm sick of the island.

Question 3: Did you get home sick freshman year? What are some tips for traveling?
-Bring a snack and pack smart.

Question 4: What are some tips for the ten hour flight?
- I stay up the night before and sleep on the flight.


Question 5: Which way is easier?

- On the way back to Hawaii is easier and always stay hydrated.


Question 6: Any plans this summer?
- Might work at summer camp.


Question 7: Are you Hawaiian?
- Yes I am actual Hawaii blood.


Question 8: Will you stay on east coast?
- I'm not sure yet, i have many friends here.


Question 9: Any tourist tips to respect Hawaiian culture?
- Wear sun screen people can tell if you are a tourist from how red you are or aloha apparel. Say hi to people and be kind. Be very forward and smile back.

Question 10: How does tipping work?
- Its normal just 20%.


Question 11: What is one of the worst flying experiences you've had?
- I had to sit next to a big smelly big guy, and he ate my food while I was sleeping.

Question 12: What's your favorite native meal?
- Kalua pork and cabbage; laulau; haupia; lomi salmon;  and poke.


Question 13: What's your favorite airplane food?
- Trail mix its in a little blue bag.


Question 14: Do you have any funny honey-mooner stories who fly? 

- Actually there haven't been many honey-mooners when I fly normally business people.


Question 15: Do you fly outside of US a lot?
- I've gone to California twice.


Question 16: Etiquette tips?
- Take shoes of in home.


Question 17: Any etiquette tips for the schools?
- Students have to learn Japanese and Hawaiian.


Question 18: Why Japanese?
- There are many Japanese individuals in my community.


Question 19: What's a big celebration you like?
- May day which celebrates spring and each grade presents a theatrical presentation of may day.


Question 20: Did you like your school?

- I loved it but i guess i didn't know any better.
